The MP3 Parser DirectShow Filter is an MP3 parser filter that parses MP3 data from an asynchronous source (i.e. Async File Source Filter) and allows connection to an MP3 decoder filter.

It properly handles VBR MP3 files, returning the correct VBR MP3 file duration and can parse MP3 files with non-MP3 data such as ID3/APE tags unlike the standard MPEG-I Stream Splitter filter that reports incorrect VBR MP3 file duration and fails to recognise some MP3 files with non-MP3 data as proper MP3 files, hence failing to open them altogether.
